Band Camp is a week long, and runs all day with breaks for meals throughout. Please make sure you have sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water, etc. as we will be outside for most of camp.
On the attached schedule you will notice each section within the band has a different move in date. If you are a resident student, you will be able to move into your residence hall on that day. There will be a window of time during the day to do that. We will then meet for a rehearsal later in the day. A more detailed schedule will be sent out in July.
No. All of your meals will be provided in the Alexander Hall dining room, covered by the Geneva Band. Your meal plan will start after band camp.
Uniform fittings will occur during band camp. The vice-president of the band will help in making sure you have the appropriate uniform pants, jacket, hat, and raincoat. If alterations need done, those will be done at that time. Uniforms in use are stored in the band room to be used at performances. Cleaning will happen at the end of the season, and is taken care of by the college. Band front members, your squad captain will be in touch about your uniforms.
If you need an instrument for marching band, you are welcome to use one that the college owns. As we get closer to band camp, I will send out a survey asking instrument needs so they can be ready for your arrival.
Flip Books/Lyres/Music are all provided in the band room. If you have your own flip book or lyre, you are welcome to use it, but those are available at Geneva for your use.
Any and all black shoes can be used. If you have a marching shoe from high school, you may use that. Remember that you will be marching on the field (it is artificial turf, so no mud), and there is a parade, so be careful on the type of shoe you have. I will put together an order during camp for anyone that needs to order shoes. They typically cost around $30.
The band does where white marching band gloves. Those are also available for purchase. They are around than $3 per pair.
Every band members will need to have a band t-shirt to wear under their uniforms and, in some instances, an alternate uniform. Shirts are $12, and can be paid for at band camp.
Once the fall semester classes start, we will meet for rehearsals on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30 – 6:00pm in Johnston Gym (band room).
The band will perform at all HOME football games, and at the Beaver County Band Festival (held at Geneva). There will be a homecoming parade through Beaver Falls on the morning of Homecoming.
Yes. You are welcome to register for marching band for credit (1 credit hr). If that puts you over the full time limit (18), you may audit it. If you need any assistance with this, please let me know. If you have the room in your schedule, I encourage you to register for credit.
Yes, all band members receive a $500 award.
Summer Orientation is a great time to meet current band members. This typically happens on campus in June. I and a few of our current band members will be there if you’d like to ask questions or want more information about the band. I hope to see you there!!
